Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office Launches Sex Offender Operation

On January 10, 2012 the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with other agencies including the United States Marshals Service, United States Secret Service, Georgia Department of Corrections, Georgia State Bureau of Pardons and Paroles, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Appalachian Drug Task Force, and the Enotah Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office conducted a sex offender registry compliance operation in Lumpkin County. Approximately 56 Law Enforcement Officers, Agents, Deputies, Investigators, Assistant District Attorneys, and Administrators assisted in the operation. 

As a result, 44 registered sex offenders’ addresses were checked. The Operation culminated in the arrest of 4 registered sex offenders and the pending arrest of 3 additional sex offenders. The Operation resulted in the following charges:                

1-Possession of Child Pornography
1-False Statements & Writings
5-Probation Violation (pending warrants from appropriate Probation Offices)
2 -Failure to Register
1-Parole Violation
                                   
As of January 13, 7 registered sex offenders were incarcerated in the Lumpkin County Detention Center; 4 as a result of the joint Operation and 3 for previous charges/violations.

Similar Operations were also conducted in White County on January 11, in Union County and Towns County on January 12.
