Georgia Charter Foundation Requests Community Input from Forsyth County Parents

The Georgia Charter Foundation in partnership with Charter Schools USA plans to file a charter petition with the Forsyth County School District to open a Kindergarten-Eighth Grade (K-8) charter school for the 2010-2011 academic year. Charter schools offer a tuition-free alternative to traditional public schools. Charter schools are publicly funded but privately operated under a performance contract with the school district and are given flexibility from regulations in exchange for higher accountability.
In an effort to receive community input as well as obtain support for the proposed school, Charter Schools USA will hold its second community input meeting at the Polo Golf and Country Club meeting room from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on March 26. This is an opportunity for parents, educators, involved citizens, and the business community to join representatives from Georgia Charter Foundation and Charter Schools USA to learn about public schools of choice such as charter schools as well as provide input regarding community interests and assets integral to the educational experience.
The Polo Golf and Country Club is located at 6300 Polo Club Drive, Cumming, GA. The event, which is free and open to the public, will provide residents with an overview of charter schools and how parents can get involved in the planning stages of this proposed school.

I hope folks turn out tomorrow evening and listen to the plans. With the demise of Bush-Kennedy's "No Child Left Behind" debacle, it is up to the local parents an governing school boards to solve these problems.
I also read (story linked below this article about a NYC law suit) where "Charter Schools" are being challenged.
Here is one that should scare the bejeezez out of all Georgians:
DEKALB MARINE CORPS INSTITUTE
Dekalb County School Board has announced plans to open a "first of its kind" in the state of Georgia and the second of such schools of several planned in the nation - with the inuagural school being in Chicago.
There will be at least two public meetings held in Dekalb starting in April.
According to local radio station that first broke the story, WABE (NPR), the United States Marine Corps has refused comment but has posted plans on one of their affiliated websites:

The fact that the Marine Corps wants an academny does not bother me. After all, the Air Force, Army & Navy all have them. Being raised as a "Mil-Brat", kids with guns in uniforms do not bother me either - under special circumstances and supervision.
WHAT DOES ALARM ME is how this is coming about - completely different than the other existing academies. This will NOT BE an "elite school" where the students have not only volunteered, but have to atually compete with other would-be students from around the nation. This is a "partnership" with the United States Marine Corp and a few Dekalb County School Board members to help solve a problem of discipline and attendance.
AND THAT'S WHO WILL BE ATTENDING!!! Now if you can get past the fact that the Military is now educating kids, disciplining kids and training their minds...rather than locally certifed teachers and respective parents, you would be like the many citizens of Germany who saw no problem with this when Hitler first intitiated it there, as well.
GEORGIANS MUST DEFEND OUR KIDS FROM FEDERAL INTERVENTION -PERIOD!!! THEY HAVE DONE ENOUGH DAMAGE TO OUR YOUTH ALREADY!
We must take back our communities; take back our cities; take back our counties; take back our State...if we are ever going to take back our country from these ever-so-clever facist-socialist. Training the minds of our kids - younger and younger to just blindly go KILL PEOPLE once commanded to by ONE MAN!
BTW...Is Bush still looking under his desk for "weapons of mass destruction" that he thought was so funny? I didn't. And I'm not laughing at this either.
Men lied - millions died. Only a fool leaves the "training of your child" to men such as these that are "quick to war".
